My Quiet Mind at Work
Welcome 2026.
I’m sitting my office, surrounded by windows. There is snow falling outside, a white wonderland. There are beautiful birds at my feeders: downy woodpeckers, cardinals, and many little grey and brown birds.
It’s quiet: from the snow, from an empty house and everyone back in their routines. Stillness.
This is how I get to think clearly and deeply.
What am I doing?
What do I want from this time?
What do I need to drive towards, and what do I pull back from?
It’s easy to get into check-list mode: I did that this morning and got a lot of checkmarks on to-dos. But that doesn’t move me forward.
This is the time to go inward. A retrospective: what’s working, what’s not, what needs to drop, what needs to be added.
I’m not looking for major changes. More tweaks of a process that already works well. Maybe inserting something new that is small and testing its effectiveness. And downsizing waste or steps that don’t work.
Making my choices more purposeful- how I write, what I post, how I coach, How I meet clients where they are.
We’ve just released a book collaboration effort. I have my first full book coming out this year. I want to be intentional about how these play out: from writing, publishing, marketing to celebrating. It’s quite vulnerable to write a book, and I need to go deep to have the confidence to do all the stages.
In order to do this vulnerable work, I need to be quiet and still. I need to think, dream and plan.
Some like to take winter retreats. Others go to places away from the norm. I’m trying the opposite: I am staying put and trying to focus in the familiar.
So I will sit at my desk, look at the birds, and get to this quiet mind work.
Maybe you will too. I can’t wait to hear what you discover!
